Colin McFarlane is an urban geographer based at Durham University, UK. His work focusses on urban learning, informality and infrastructure in cities. This has included research on the politics of urban knowledge, 20150504_123855urban sanitation, and everyday life in informal neighbourhoods, especially in Mumbai, Cape Town, and Kampala.

He is author of Learning the City: Knowledge and Translocal Assemblage, and co-editor of Infrastructural Lives (with Steve Graham), Urban Navigations (with Jon Anjaria), Urban Informalities (with Michael Waibel), and the forthcoming Smart Urbanism: Utopian Vision or False Dawn? (with Andres Luque and Simon Marvin).
